Transaction Enrichment: AISP Provider Comparison

Which EU & UK open banking connectivity providers actually enrich transaction data, what kind, and which use case it fits.

Enrichment is not one capability, and a provider that is strong for one use case can be weak for another. Toggle a use case to re-rank the providers below by fit. Expand any row for capabilities, taxonomy, vendor-published figures, and sources.

Accuracy and merchant-graph figures are vendor-published. Treat them as claims to verify in a sandbox against your own transaction samples, not independent benchmarks.

Rule-based and bundled enrichment typically reaches 60-70% accuracy on the long tail of smaller merchants. Well-known brands are easy to classify but are only a fraction of total transaction volume.

Validate the providers and banks you actually need per country. Headline institution counts mix banks, branches, and non-bank data sources and are not comparable across vendors.

Specialist enrichment vendors (pure-play)

These are not AISP connectivity providers. They are a complementary, enrichment-only layer. A common pattern is to pull data through an AISP and route those transactions through one of these specialists for cleaning.

Why use cases differ

Enrichment is not one capability. Consumer PFM rewards a clean, granular personal category tree, merchant logos, and recurring-payment detection. SME lending rewards business transaction categorisation, which is harder because the same transaction means different things to payer and payee, and consumer category trees map poorly onto business spend. Reconciliation rewards merchant cleansing, counterparty identification, and a stable transaction ID to match against. A provider that is strong for one can be weak for another.

Aggregator vs specialist

Connectivity and enrichment are increasingly separate markets. Aggregators bundle their own enrichment, but pure-play vendors often hold stronger merchant graphs because that is their whole focus. The two layers are complementary. A common pattern is to pull data through an AISP and route those transactions through a specialist enrichment provider for cleaning. For SME underwriting, where a misclassified transaction can change a credit decision, the specialist layer usually outperforms bundled aggregator enrichment.
